MOKARI MAKKA?
Salarymen from Osaka often greet each other with Mokari Makka? A phrase which roughly translates to ‘Did you make any money?’ Join Dutch Photographer Thijs Koelink on a chronological, yet fictive journey through a Japanese metropolis.
The book ‘Mokari Makka?’ is published in Utrecht. You read this book like a Manga, starting from the back, then chronologically forward. To further align with Japanese Manga books, ‘Mokari Makka?’ is printed on off-white Roman paper.
LOS VOCHOS
Mexico was one of the last countries producing the VW Beetle. Taxi’s in Mexico City used to be mainly Beetle’s, literally called ‘Vochos’. They were my red thread throughout this project, which touches on traffic, street life, pollution and faith. For a few weeks I’ve wondered the streets of Mexico City in search for some decisive moments, where ‘Los Vochos’ play a significant role. These photographs were shot back in 2006, originally on 35mm colour film. I’ve resurrected a series from the project and converted these to monochrome assets to suit my Streets section better.
